Gull Lake gave the host Mustangs all they could handle on the opening night of HS football. Both teams were equally matched on a physical Friday night. Gull Lake struck first in the 2nd quarter on a 12 TD pass from Eric White to Nate Willard. Gull Lake led at the half 7 – 0. Portage Central found their rhythm in the 3rd quarter with two touchdowns of their own to take a 14-7 lead after three quarters.
A lightning delay with five minutes to go in the 4th quarter forced a two-and-a-half-hour delay with play resuming after midnight. The Mustangs scored with under three minutes to play to seal the game. Final score: PC 21 GL 7.
