Gull Lake goes 1-2 during the PBR’s Midwest Select Showcase.

April 9th and 10th, Grand Park Sports Complex, Westfield, Indiana

With the top teams from Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana, Gull Lake goes 1-2 during the PBR’s Midwest Select Showcase. Gull Lake was among 11 teams invited to play in this event.

Game 1 - Edwardsville, IL 3, Gull Lake 1.

Edwardsville exploited a great pitching performance from starter Collin Salter to beat Gull Lake. He carved up Gull Lake hitters to a tune of 13 strikeouts. Salter allowed 1 run on 3 hits, stranding 3 Gull Lake runners.

Edwardsville also took advantage six costly errors scoring 3 runs off them. They opened the scoring up in the Top of the 4th Inning, after Joe Copeland reached on an error then scored on a Josh Ohl RBI triple. They would add two more in the Top of the 5th Hayden Moore RBI single, and a Drew Prescott SAC Fly.

Gull Lake could cut into the lead in the Bottom of the 5th after back to back singles by Nick Fadden and Dawson Clancy put runners on the corners with one out. Pitch Runner Carson Senske would score Gull Lake’s lone run on a Collin Salter wild pitch. Salter struck out the next two Gull Lake hiiters to end the inning.

Dawson Clancy had 2 of the 3 hits for Gull Lake. Nick Fadden had the other. Josh Ohl had two big hits in the win for Edwardsville. Hayden Moore, Joe Copeland, and Logan Cromer each had hits as well.

Jack Blesch picked up the loss for Gull Lake despite his tremendous outing. All Edwardsville runs were unearned. Jack surrender 5, hits while striking out 8, leaving 7 Edwardsville runners on base.

 

Game 2 - Gull Lake 9, Libertyville, OH, 0

Gull Lake flexed its muscles in the win collecting 9 runs on 8 hits in the win.

Gull Lake opened up the scoring in the Top of the 2nd when Dylan Stanton reached base on an error. He would later score on a Jack Blesch Single to left center. Dawson Clancy singled, and Brandon Ruge walked to load the bases. Blesch would score on a Hunter Hazel groundout to 3rd base. Courtesy Runner Carson Senske, and Brandon Ruge both scored on a 2 out 2, RBI single by Justin Mansager.

Gull Lake would get 5 more in the Top of the 7th sparked by a Dylan Stanton bases loaded walk, a 2 RBI single by Korbin Griffin, an RBI Single by Jack Blesch, and a Justin Mansager SAC Fly.

That would be more than enough runs for Gull Lake’s Starting Pitcher Luke Scoles. Scoles threw a complete game 1 hit shutout, striking out 6.

Libertyville’s Derek Calamari took the loss on the mound.

Gull Lake was lead offensively by Jack Blesch, he picked up 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Justin Mansager added a hit and 3 RBIs'. Korbin Griffin, Dawson Clancy, Dylan Stanton, Brandon Ruge, and Hunter Hazel all had hits as well.

Dylan Drumke had Libertyville’s only hit in the loss,

 

Game 3 Centerville, OH 4, Gull Lake 0

The story of the game was the outstanding performance by Clemson commit Nick Hoffman. Some would say it was perfect. Hoffman retired all 21 Gull Lake batters he faced that day. His final line was no runs, on no hits, striking out 8.

Offensively Centreville was led by Kyle Moyer’s 2 hits and 1 RBI. Ethan Muckerheide added 2 hits of his own.

Gull Lake's, Luke Mastromatteo suffered the loss.
