LAKEVIEW HIGH SCHOOL: 3
Gull Lake and Lakeview faced off for the 3rd time in less than 2 weeks in the first game of the Holt District. Both teams battled back and forth and Gull Lake earned a 4-3 win in a walk-off fashion. Gull Lake won the coin toss and was giving the opportunity for last at bats, which they took advantage of. Lakeview opened up the scoring in the top of the 3rd when Jackson Kitchen reached base do to an error and moved to 3rd on a Tyler Brown double. Justin Ratliff then hit a Sac Fly to Left Field to drive in Kitchen. Gull Lake tied it up in the 4th after Jacob Gleason walked and Luke Scoles was hit by a pitch. Looking to advance the runners, Gull Lake put in pinch-hitter Brandon Ruge to lay down a bunt. Both runners moved up when a Balk was called on Lakeview’s Brendan Shepherd. With runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs Lakeview’s Shepherd got Ruge to line out to 1st Baseman Kollin Johnson who then doubled off courtesy runner Tony Schontala at 2nd. After a Nick Fadden walk Gavin Griffin reached on an error by the shortstop allowing Gleason to score. End of 4 Lakeview 1, Gull Lake 1. Lakeview didn’t take very long to break the tie, they scored 2 runs in the Top of the 5th giving them a 3-1 lead. Tyler Brown and Justin Ratliff had back to back singles to lead off the inning. Jalen Watkins laid down a sac bunt to move the runners up. Next up Kollin Johnson hit a dribbler to 3rd base for a single, and went to 2nd on an error on the play. Both Brown and Ratliff would come around to score. Johnson was credited with a single and error with 1 RBI. Gull Lake cut into the lead in their half of the 5th after Hunter Hazel walked then stole 2nd base. Hunter then tagged up and moved to 3rd when Cade Stanton Flew out to Left Field. He then scored on a passed ball. At the end of 5 Lakeview 3, Gull Lake 2. Lakeview would hold the lead going into Gull Lake’s final at bats. Gavin Griffin led off the inning with a walk. Justin Mansager followed that up with a walk of his own. Lakeview’s pitcher Justin Ratliff, who replaced Brendan Shepherd in the 6h, responded by striking out Hunter Hazel, after Hazel attempts at a sac bunt just rolled foul. Dylan Stanton would then single to drive in Griffin tying the game at 3. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Cade Stanton Lined out to center for the 2nd out of the inning. Jacob Gleason walked to load the bases. With the bases loaded and two outs Jack Blesch, who replaced Luke Scoles on the mound in the 7th after Scoles reached his pitch count limit, came up to bat to help his cause. Jack worked the count to 2-1 when ball 3 slipped past the catcher. Justin Mansager who was on 3rd went to go home but stopped and went back to 3rd. Dylan Stanton was almost to 3rd and drew the throw from the catcher back to 2nd base. Lakeview’s shortstop was unable to receive the throw and Justin Mansager was able to score the game winning run. Jack Blesch earned the 1 out Win on the mound, and Justin Ratliff got the loss. Lakeview’s Tyler Brown had 3 hits on the day, and Jack Goodman added 2 more in the loss. Gull Lake advanced to play the winner of the next District Game, Holt versus Jackson.
