Portage Northern out lasted Gull Lake in a slugfest 14-12.

Portage Northern opened the scoring up in the 2nd on a Parker Brey RBI single scoring Nolan McCarthy, who led off the inning with a walk. The Huskies then sent 10 batters to the plate in the 3rd inning picking up 6 more runs making it 7-0. Gull Lake cut into the lead scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd on a Dylan Stanton double that scored Justin Mansager and Jacob Gleason. After a Cade Stanton walk, Kole Warren double drove in Dylan Stanton making it a 7-3 Portage Northern lead. Every time Gull Lake made it close Portage Northern would answer back. Portage Northern scored 2 in the 4th, 4 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th. Gull Lake was able to pick up 2 in the 4th, 4 in the 5th and 3 in the 6th cutting the lead 14-12. After shutting out Portage Northern in the top of the 7th, Gull Lake was able to send the winning run to the plate. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Michael Lincoln was able to get Gull Lake to ground into a game ending double play.  Portage Northern’s Tyler Helgeson picked up the win on the mound, while Jack Blesch got the loss. Parker Brey had a big day for Northern with 2 hits and 3 RBI’s. Five other Huskies had two hits each in the win. Jacob Gleason led the way for Gull Lake with 3 hits and 4 RBI’s. Justin Mansager also added 3 hits, 3 RBI’s and 2 stolen bases.

Gull Lake is back at it Friday home against Pennfield.
