Gull Lake beats Harper Creek 11-1 in 5 innings

Gull Lake used two big innings and a stellar performance on the mound by Jack Blesch to earn the victory.

Sophomore Jack Blesch took the mound in dominant fashion going 5 strong innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit while striking out a season high 11 Harper Creek batters. Harper Creek’s lone hit and run came in the 3rd when Nick Pape singled and scored when Devon Hudson reached base on an error. After the 3rd inning, Blesch settled in and struck out 5 of the last 6 he faced, not allowing a runner to reach base in his last two innings. Blesch also helped his cause at the plate with a huge 2 out double that drove in 2 runs in the 3rd. Gull Lake sent 10 batters to the plate in a 5 run 3rd inning. Nick Fadden led off the inning with a shot down the 3rd base line. Justin Mansager singled putting runners at 1st and 2nd. A Jacob Gleason single scored Fadden, and a speedy Mansager went 1st to 3rd to put runners on the corners. Gleason then stole 2nd putting runners at 2nd and 3rd. Dylan Stanton drove in Mansager on an RBI groundout. Cade Stanton then doubled to left center driving in Gleason to give Gull Lake a 3-1 lead. After a Luke Scoles single and a Gavin Griffin walk, Blesch doubled to right center driving in Stanton and Scoles. After 3 innings Gull Lake 5, Harper Creek 1. Gull Lake would go on to score 6 more runs in the 5th including the game winner, a walk off single by Gavin Griffin that drove in Jacob Gleason, giving Gull Lake the 11-1 victory. The win gives Jack Blesch a 4-1 record on the year. Ethan Shipley was handed the loss. Jacob Gleason led Gull Lake at the plate going 3-4 with 2 RBI’s and 2 stolen bases. Justin Mansager, Luke Scoles, and Nick Fadden all had 2 hits in the win.

Harper Creek hosts Coldwater on Tuesday, and Gull Lake travels to Hastings for a special Mother’s Day event on Friday. It will be a 6:03 p.m. start,
