Gull Lake beats Holt Game 1 8-2, and host Battle Creek Lakeview in Game 2 6-3 to win back to back District Title.

Game 1 Gull Lake 8, Holt 2.

After a short delay due to weather, Gull Lake battled Holt in the first round of District 10 at Battle Creek Lakeview. The winner of this game would go on to face Battle Creek Lakeview in the District Final. Lakeview beat Jackson 4-3 in the first round of the District.

Holt jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Luke Jayaramann led off the inning by barely beating out an infield hit to 2nd. Braeden Emery would then lay down a SAC Bunt to move Jayaramann to 2nd. He would come around to score when Jake Harris reached due to an error.

It didn’t take Gull Lake long to respond, they scored 2 in their half of the inning to give them the 2-1 lead. Justin Mansager led off the inning with a base on balls. He would reach 2nd on an errant pickoff attempt by Holt’s pitcher. Jacob Louden would single and move to 2nd on the throw. With runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, Dylan Stanton stepped in and hit a SAC Fly deep to Center to score Mansager from 3rd. After a Dawson Clancy walk, Luke Scoles hit a line drive up the middle to score Louden. At the end of 1, Gull Lake 2, Holt 1.

Gull Lake would add 2 more in the bottom of the 2nd to jump out to a 4 to 1 lead. Hunter Hazel doubled to deep left and moved to 3rd on a Justin Mansager infield single. Mansager would swipe 2nd to give Gull Lake runners on 2nd and 3rd. Hazel would score and Mansager would go to 3rd on a Wild Pitch. Jacob Louden would then single to drive in Mansager.

Holt would cut into the lead in the Top of the 3rd on a Jake Harris double that drove in Luke Jayaramann who led off the inning with a single. Gull Lake’s starting Pitcher Jack Blesch would strand Harris at 3rd after getting the next 2 Holt Hitters out.

Gull Lake would get that run back in their half of the inning. Dawson Clancy hit the Left Field fence for a double. Courtesy Runner Korbin Griffin would replace Clancy at 2nd. He would score on a Luke Scoles single. At the end of 3 Gull Lake 5, Holt 2.

Gull Lake would pick up 3 more runs in the 4th inning giving Gull Lake an 8-2 lead. Justin Mansager singled to kick the inning off. After stealing 2nd, Mansager would come around to score on a Dylan Stanton single. Stanton a speedster himself then stole 2nd and 3rd. After a Kole Warren walk, Dawson Clancy would single to score Stanton. Luke Scoles would then walk to load the bases. Brandon Ruge would later get hit by a pitch to score Warren.

That would be more than enough runs for Starter Jack Blesch. He got the win on the mound going all 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 6. Braeden Emery was handed the loss for Holt.

With the win Gull Lake, they advanced to the District Final game against host Battle Creek Lakeview.

 

District 10 Final, Gull Lake 6, Lakeview 3.

Gull Lake jumped out to a 2 nothing lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Kole Warren led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch. Dawson Clancy would then walk, and a Luke Scoles hit-by-pitch would load the bases for Gull Lake. Senior Brandon Ruge would come up with a huge single up the middle to score Warren, and Courtesy Runner Carson Senske. At the end of 2, Gull Lake 2, Lakeview 0.

Lakeview would get one back in the top of the 3rd after walking the bases loaded with no outs. Logan Komarck led off the inning with a walk, followed by a Justin Ratliff, and Jackson Kitchen base on balls. Komarck would score on a Kosta Sevastopoulos RBI groundout. Gull Lake’s Luke Mastromatteo would minimize the damage and limited Lakeview to just 1 run in the inning.  

Gull Lake would score 4 more runs in the bottom of the 4th to add to their lead. Dylan Stanton kicked it off when he took Brendan Shepherd’s 2-1 pitch deep over the left field fence for a Home Run. Kole Warren would single, followed by a Dawson Clancy walk, and a Luke Scoles hit-by-pitch would load the bases. Jack Blesch would hit into a fielder’s choice to score Warren. Courtesy runner Carson Senke would score on an error by the shortstop which also sent Scoles to 3rd. Scoles would score on a Brandon Ruge RBI SAC Fly to Center.

Lakeview would pick up 1 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th to cut into the lead. Courtesy Runner Jake Siddall would score on a Jack Goodman SAC Fly, and then Sawyer Shotwell would score in the 6th on a Gull Lake fielding error cutting the lead to 3 going into their final at-bat.

Gull Lake’s Braden Stanton, who replaced Luke Mastromatteo in the  Top of the 5th inning, got Lakeview to go 1,2,3 in the top of the 7th to seal Gull Lake’s District Championship and give him the save.

Luke Mastromatteo got the win on the hill, going 4 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 2. Brendan Shepherd was given the loss for Lakeview.

Gull Lake advances to play the winner of District 11 in the Pre-Regional held Wednesday at East Lansing High School. Game time 5 pm.
