Gull Lake wins Game 1 against Mattawan

Game 1 Gull Lake picked up the win in game one 7-2. Gull Lake got on the board first in the 1st after lead off hitter Justin Mansager reached due to an error.  He stole 2nd and later scored on a passed ball. Mattawan evened the score in the bottom of the 1st on a RBI single by Mitchell Begeman that plated Max Huntley who lead off the inning with a walk. Gull Lake was able to take the lead back after getting a clutch two out 2 RBI single by Justin Mansager. Kole Warren who started out the inning with a single scored along with courtesy runner Tony Schnotala. Mattawan cut into the lead in the 2nd when Josh Swinehart scored on an RBI sacrifice bunt by Noah Janssen. Gull Lake tacked on 2 more runs in the 4th and in the 6th extending the lead 7-2. That was all the run support Luke Scoles needed to pick up his second win on the mound. Scoles went five and a third innings allowing two runs on 6 hits while striking out 4. Jacob Gleason came in and shut the door to pick up the save. Gleason’s final line: no runs on no hits with 3 strikeouts. Ryan Dorff is handed the loss. Justin Mansager led Gull Lake at the dish collecting 2 hits and driving in 3 runs. Brandon Ruge added two hits, Dylan Stanton had an RBI single, Gavin Griffin and Luke Scoles also doubled in the game. Mitchell Begeman lead Mattawan with 3 hits including a triple. 

Game 2 Has been postponed in the top of the 5th inning with Gull Lake leading 1-0 in a pitching duel.  Gull Lake’s lone run came on an RBI single by Dylan Stanton in the 3rd. Stanton drove in Jacob Gleason after Gleason doubled down the 3rd base line. Jack Blesch got the start on the bump for Gull Lake. Through 4 Jack has allowed no runs on 1 hit and 6 strikeouts. Blesch’s counterpart on the mound, Mattawan’s Tanner Knapp through 4 has allowed 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 5. Mattawan’s lone hit came from Parker Neel in the 3rd. Parker lead off the 3rd with single and was throw out by Dawson Clancy while trying to steal 2nd base. Jack Blesch and Gavin Griffin both had hits for Gull Lake. The game will resume in a future date with Gull Lake up to bat.

Mattawan plays at Grand Ledge on Saturday while Gull Lake hosts Portage Central Thursday.
