GAME SUMMARYGull Lake wins Game 1 9-2 and loses Game 2 3-2 in 9 innings. Game 1 Gull Lake 9, Catholic Central 2. Gull Lake scored 9 runs on 9 hits while taking advantage of 4 costly Catholic Central errors. Gull Lake put up crooked numbers in each of the 2nd, 4th, and 6th innings to put it out of reach. The scoring began in the Top of the 2nd when Carson Senske singled and went to 3rd when Dean Sommer placed a beautiful SAC Bunt down that was picked up by the pitcher, but the throw was too much for the 1st baseman to handle and Sommer reached safely. A passed ball would score Senske and advance Sommer to 2nd. After John Stage ground-out to the Short-Stop, Justin Mansager doubled deep to centerfield to plate Sommer. Mansager would end up scoring on a wild pitch. Catholic Center got on back in their half of the 2nd on 3 consecutive singles by Joel Collins, Ben Joppich, and Nate Trudeau. Collins would score on Trudeau’s single to left. At the end of 2 Gull Lake 3, Catholic Central 1. Gull Lake would add 2 more in the 4th when Dean Sommer scored on a Dylan Stanton Fielder’s Choice. Sommer walked then went to 2nd on a John Stage SAC Bunt. He would move to 3rd on a Justin Mansager infield single. After a Jacob Louden walk, Mansager was forced out at 3rd when Dylan Stanton hit into his Fielder’s Choice. Luke Scoles walked and Jacob Louden would score on an error when Catholic Central’s catcher tried to back pick Scoles, and the throw was dropped by the 1st baseman, allowing Louden to score. They would pick up 4 in the 6th on 2, 2 RBI Singles by Senior Catcher Dawson Clancy, and Dean Sommer, giving Gull Lake a 9-1 lead. Dylan Stanton led off the inning with a single, and Luke Scoles would have had a double but missed 1st base and had to retreat. Jack Blesch would follow that up with a walk to load the bases. Stanton and Scoles would score on Clancy’s Single. Carson Senske reached base on a Fielder’s Choice then stole 2nd to set up Sommer’s 2 RBI single. Catholic Central added 1 more in the 7th on an RBI groundout by Brady Plachecki. Jack Lambert led off the inning with a Hit By Pitch. He would move to 2nd on a passed ball, would eventually score on Plachecki’s groundout. Final Score Gull Lake 9, Catholic Central 2. Gull Lake’s Brandon Ruge picked up the win on the hill going all 7, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, striking out 4. Ryan McCkelland was handed the loss for Catholic Central. Game 2 Grand Rapids Catholic Central 3, Gull Lake 2 in 9 innings. Fans were treated to some free baseball in Game 2, as Catholic Central and Gull Lake went into extra innings to decide this contest. Catholic Central would score a run in each of the 1st 2 innings. Nate Trudeau singled, stole 2nd base and then would score on an error by Gull Lake’s pitcher. Ben Joppich would score Catholic Central’s 2nd run on a Miles Beale SAC Fly to centerfield. At the end of 2 Catholic Central 2, Gull Lake 0. Gull Lake would tie it up in the 5th. With 2 outs, Justin Mansager walked, a single by Jacob Louden, and a Dylan Stanton walk would load the bases. An infield single by Dawson Clancy would plate both Mansager and Louden to tie the game. The game would stay that way until the bottom of the 9th. Catholic Central’s Miles Beale singled then stole 2nd and 3rd before scoring on a Jack Nawrocki walk-off RBI single to centerfield. Giving Catholic Central the 3-2 win. Earning the win on the mound for Catholic Central was Zach Grawbowski. Carson Senske suffered the loss for Gull Lake. Offensively Gull Lake was lead by Jacob Louden, and Carson Senske who both picked up 2 hits apiece. Hunter Hazel, Dylan Stanton, Brandon Ruge, and Dawson Clancy each added a hit for Gull Lake in the loss. They will both meet again May 28th at Gull Lake. First pitch is at 4 pm.
