Gull Lake scored 17 runs behind 16 hits to beat Battle Creek Harper Creek in non-conference action

Gull Lake jumped out to a 4 nothing lead in the top of the 1st inning after sending 10 batters to the plate. Hunter Hazel led off the game by reaching 1st base due to a dropped 3rd strike. Hazel then stole second and later scored on a RBI single by Jacob Louden. After a Luke Scoles walk, and Korbin Griffin single to load the bases, Kole Warren singled to drive in Louden and courtesy runner Carson Senske. Griffin later scored on a Nick Fadden SAC Fly to give Gull Lake a 4-0 lead.
Gull Lake added 2 more in the 2nd on a Luke Scoles double, and a 2 run Home Run by Dylan Stanton. That was Stanton’s first Home Run of the season.
The Blue Devils added 1 more run in the top of the 4th after Luke Scoles scored on a Carson Senske SAC Fly. Battle Creek Harper Creek was able to cut into to the lead in the 4th after Sam Bussler drew a bases-loaded walk, and a wild pitch scored Ethan Shipley. At the end of 4, Gull Lake 7, Harper Creek 2.
Jack Blesch led off the 5th inning with a single followed by a Dawson Clancy double to give Gull Lake runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Blesch would score on a Hunter Hazel RBI groundout to short, and courtesy runner Cooper Hamlin scored when Jacob Louden doubled to left center. Harper Creek was able to get one back after Nick Pape scored on a passed ball making the score Gull Lake 9, Harper Creek 3.
Gull Lake picked up 4 more in the top of the 6th. With the bases loaded, Brandon Ruge doubled to clear the bases. Ruge would later score on a Hunter Hazel RBI single. Harper Creek would add another on a RBI Single by Drew Mitchell. Gull Lake 13, Harper Creek 4.
The Blue Devils added 4 more runs in the top of the 7th on a 3-run shot by senior catcher Dawson Clancy, his first career Home Run. Brandon Ruge added another double and scored on an error by the catcher. Final Score Gull Lake 17, Harper Creek 4.
Jacob Louden led Gull Lake with 4 hits. Brandon Ruge, Dawson Clancy, and Korbin Griffin had two hits as well. Nick Pape added 2 hits in the loss for Harper Creek. Zack Henson and Drew Mitchell had Harper Creek’s other hits.
Luke Scoles picked up the win on the mound for Gull Lake throwing 2 shutout innings allowing 1 hit while striking out 5. Chandler Froelich was handed the loss for Harper Creek.
Next up Harper Creek will host Marshall, and Gull Lake will host Portage Central this Thursday.
